Intro to Metal Fabrication
Level: Intermediate
Prerequisite: Intro to MIG Welding, or prior outside MIG welding experience. Please do not enroll if you do not meet these requirements.
Approx. Duration: 8 Hours with a break for lunch. Lunch provided.
Class Enrollment Closure & Minimum: Enrollment closes 3 days prior to date of class. Any last minute enrollments must be approved prior to sign up. In this Metal Shop intensive, students will learn how to fabricate an end table base out of mild steel. This is a complete start to finish project that outlines all necessary steps from planning, preparing, fabricating and finishing, which will result in a 24” x 18” table base.
Students will learn how to read a drawing, measure, cut, drill, tap, layout, clamp, weld, and blend. You will also become familiar with a wide array of metalworking tools such as:
Measuring tools
Horizontal band saw
Drill press
Taps
Clamps
MIG welder
Angle grinder and cut off wheel
Pneumatic tools
All materials and PPE will be provided, and a pizza lunch is provided.

Wood Keepsake Box Workshop, Part 1
Level: Beginner
Approx. Duration: 9 Total Hours, divided into 3 sessions. This class is 3 parts, each a 3-hour session on particular dates. You must attend all dates to complete your project, and you must attend the first day in order to proceed.

Get down the fundamentals of woodworking by creating your own custom wood keepsake box with lid! This class is a project-based introduction to woodworking, where students will learn to cut, assemble, and glue a mitered box with splines on each corner.
Students will choose from a wide selection of wood species / grain and will gain experience with table saw and advanced techniques, compound meter saw, band saw, router table, and sanders to complete their own unique box measuring roughly 9" L x 6 "W x 4" H.
Class Outline:
Session 1: Introduction, wood selection, constructing the box body.
Session 2: Constructing the box lid.
Session 3: Completing the finish to achieve a professional-look.

Each student will get hands-on practice, each with a dedicated welder, and leave with a small finished project. All materials and PPE will be provided. This class is a pre-requisite for all other classes in our metalworking category.

Students will leave with their own carved block, three custom prints created from the block, and resourceful materials distributed in the class for ongoing reference.

She earned her BFA from Watkins College of Art in 2018 and has since exhibited her work in 16 states, tabled at dozens of art markets across the Southeast, and regularly hosts workshops to recruit others into the cult that is print. Sarah's goal is for each print to lie just shy of disorienting—visually dense enough to require a second look, rewarding those who let themselves linger. Get down the fundamentals of woodworking by creating your own custom wood keepsake box with lid! This class is a project-based introduction to woodworking, where students will learn to cut, assemble, and glue a mitered box with splines on each corner.
Students will choose from a wide selection of wood species / grain and will gain experience with table saw and advanced techniques, compound meter saw, band saw, router table, and sanders to complete their own unique box measuring roughly 9" L x 6 "W x 4" H.

Create a custom picture frame from scratch! Over 2 sessions, learn to build a frame for your favorite Hatch Show poster print, or other similar sized artwork. Students can choose from a wide variety of frame profiles and color applications. You will fabricate, assemble, sand, stain, finish and install hardware to complete your very own original frame, built to professional standards!
Class Outline:
Session 1: Introduction, basic construction, how to apply stain or finish. Homework is to shop for a glass insert piece and mat (optional) to bring to the next session.
Session 2: Completing the finish to achieve a professional-look, installing the glass, inserting the artwork, adding hardware.

Across 3 sessions, expert woodworking instructor David Amundson will guide you through the tools and equipment, design and application techniques, sanding and finishing, as well as demonstrations and sources of inspiration.

Fiber artist Jennifer Fleischer is the owner and founder of Ibu Textiles, a line of woven products created in Nashville, TN. She designs and weaves each unique piece by hand. With the use of floor and frame looms, she blends traditional and experimental techniques. Her current work exhibits a strong design aesthetic inspired by Jennifer’s experiences seeking peace and calm in an urban environment. Traveling plays a vital role in her inspiration as well, as the brand’s name itself, Ibu, means ‘Mother’ in Indonesian. Originally from New York, Jennifer happily calls Nashville home with her husband, Nate, multiple plants and more yarn than she knows what to do with.

In this hands-on workshop, you will explore the exciting world of Linocut Printmaking! Learn how to draw, transfer, carve and print your own design, leaving with your very own carved block and custom prints.
Instructor Sarah Bogdal will take you through a historical perspective of printmaking, relief and linocut, moving on to an in-depth look at materials, and finally guiding you through the process of successful carving and printing.
Students will leave with their own carved block, three custom prints created from the block, and resourceful materials distributed in the class for ongoing reference.

Sarah Bogdal is a printmaker living and working in Nashville, Tennessee. Her practice is shaped by the joy of the process: every linoleum block is a visual puzzle of light, texture, and space. She earned her BFA from Watkins College of Art in 2018 and has since exhibited her work in 16 states, tabled at dozens of art markets across the Southeast, and regularly hosts workshops to recruit others into the cult that is print. Linocut Printmaking 101, Part 2
Level: Beginner
Approx. Duration: 6 Hours (2 3-hour Weekly Sessions). This class is 2 parts, each a 3-hour session on consecutive weeks. You must attend both dates to complete your project, and you must attend the first day in order to proceed.

In this hands-on workshop, you will explore the exciting world of Linocut Printmaking! Learn how to draw, transfer, carve and print your own design, leaving with your very own carved block and custom prints.
Instructor Sarah Bogdal will take you through a historical perspective of printmaking, relief and linocut, moving on to an in-depth look at materials, and finally guiding you through the process of successful carving and printing.
Students will leave with their own carved block, three custom prints created from the block, and resourceful materials distributed in the class for ongoing reference.
No prior experience required, open to all levels.

About the instructor:
Sarah Bogdal is a printmaker living and working in Nashville, Tennessee. Her practice is shaped by the joy of the process: every linoleum block is a visual puzzle of light, texture, and space. She earned her BFA from Watkins College of Art in 2018 and has since exhibited her work in 16 states, tabled at dozens of art markets across the Southeast, and regularly hosts workshops to recruit others into the cult that is print. Sarah's goal is for each print to lie just shy of disorienting—visually dense enough to require a second look, rewarding those who let themselves linger. As the founder of esteemed flower shop Laurel and Leaf, she has specialized in custom arrangements for her impressive client list. Stacy has received accolades for her work, including being listed in the top 20 florists in the South by Southern Living Magazine, named Voter’s Choice in Nashville House and Home Magazine for five consecutive years, and consistently placed in the top three florists on Yelp. Her instructor credentials include workshops for corporate groups, community groups, schools, and even private gatherings. She is now semi-retired and enjoying traveling with her husband.
