Discover a new technique that will open your world to new creative possibilities!

In this class, we will discover a transfer technique that enables you to embed ink pigments directly onto a surface by hand. This approach is amazing to create stunning works of art, personalized gifts, home decor, and so much more.

Acrylic image transfers blend painting with photography by using an acrylic gel medium to lift toner off a photocopy and embed the ink onto canvas, wood, fabric, metal, or stone. The result is a softer and more eerie impression of the original that leaves unique marks, shows brush strokes, and highlights the unique imperfections of the chosen medium. The result is a one-of-a-kind looking version of your image, which you can use as the basis for an original artwork, or personalized accessory.

Laurie will walk you through the fun and creative process of image transference. Then, students will have the opportunity to add their own touches such as paint, fabric scraps, and other decorative findings, to result in a finished work of art.

It is recommended that students bring their own photocopies, transfer mediums, and embellishments for the most personalized experience. We will also provide resources and materials for students who cannot bring their own (canvases, tote bags, wood scraps, paints, fabric scraps, etc.)

The type of finished art piece is up to you!

Recommended materials if you wish to bring your own:

  • Standard photocopies, or ink-jet printed images - color, or B&W (An image of your pet or family, a flower, Holiday imagery, etc.). Bring several to experiment with!

  • Acrylic Paints (light or bright colors work best.)

  • A transfer surface:

    • Wood (A piece of raw wood, a wooden tray, pre-cut wooden ornaments, a wooden box, etc.)

    • Artist Canvas

    • Metal (A rustic sign, a metal tray, etc.)

    • Fabric (A tote bag, sneakers, a pillow case, etc.)

    • Stone (A piece of slate, a garden stone, etc.)

    • Salvaged Plastic

All class enrollments are subject to a no-refund, no-transfer policy. Instructors have the right to refuse any enrollee who does not meet the age and/or prerequisite requirements without issuing any refund.

By purchasing a class, or gifting a class, you are agreeing to our policy. Please read the full FAQ and policy here: https://www.theforgenashville.org/class-policy-and-faq
