Beginners welcome! In this class we will learn the core skills of silversmithing over the course of one fun-filled day. 

You will learn:

  • foundational skills and techniques of silversmithing

  • how to make (and take home) a set of sterling silver stacking rings

  • how to make (and take home) your very own ring with a bezel set stone

We will use torches and work with hot materials, so please wear closed toed shoes, long pants, and wear your hair up, if necessary. 

After class, you’ll go home with all of your new handmade sterling silver jewelry, a binder full of resources on suppliers, trouble shooting tips, and reference sheets for the skills you acquired in class, as well as access to Jenny’s online beginner’s silversmithing course so you can refer back to video recorded content of the steps we cover in class.

In this class, you will apply and expand your fundamental metalworking skills to create a beautiful rose with base stand from mild steel. Come increase your knowledge of all that is possible in the Metal Shop!

Students will experience the following tools and processes:

  • small horizontal band saw

  • hand tools for metal forming

  • tack welding with the MIG welder

  • angle grinder

  • how the plasma table works

In this Metal Shop intensive, students will learn how to fabricate an end table base out of mild steel. This is a complete start to finish project that outlines all necessary steps from planning, preparing, fabricating and finishing, which will result in a 24” x 18” table base.

Students will learn how to read a drawing, measure, cut, drill, tap, layout, clamp, weld, and blend. You will also become familiar with a wide array of metalworking tools such as:

  • Measuring tools

  • Horizontal band saw

  • Drill press

  • Taps

  • Clamps

  • MIG welder

  • Angle grinder and cut off wheel

  • Pneumatic tools

All materials and PPE will be provided, and a pizza lunch is provided.

  • How to make (and take home) a pair of sterling silver earrings with either a post-back or earring wires

  • How to make (and take home) your very own sterling silver pendant necklace

In this Metal Shop intensive, students will learn how to fabricate an end table base out of mild steel. This is a complete start to finish project that outlines all necessary steps from planning, preparing, fabricating and finishing, which will result in a 24” x 18” table base.

Students will learn how to read a drawing, measure, cut, drill, tap, layout, clamp, weld, and blend. You will also become familiar with a wide array of metalworking tools such as:

  • Measuring tools

  • Horizontal band saw

  • Drill press

  • Taps

  • Clamps

  • MIG welder

  • Angle grinder and cut off wheel

  • Pneumatic tools

All materials and PPE will be provided, and a pizza lunch is provided.

9am-5pm, both days - May run over an extra hour or two.

In this Introduction to Knife Forging, we will focus on the fundamentals of what makes a great culinary knife. From steel type and heat treat to shaping and finishing techniques, we will set the student up with the basic knowledge and hands-on learning to get started in knife making. This is a forging class. Students will hammer, grind, and finish their blade before shaping and attaching their handle. We purposely designed this class with a maximum of 4 students so that you have dedicated one-on-one time with the instructor.

This two day, 16 hour class will consist of classroom as well as shop time. The student will walk home with an 8" Chef’s knife. Lunch at noon and beers/beverages after class will be provided.

What students should have / could bring:

  • Work clothes (non-flammable)

  • No loose clothing/hair/jewelry

  • Closed toe shoes

  • Safety Glasses

  • Respirator/Dust mask

  • Water Bottle

  • Notepad

What students will get out of the class:

  • Kitchen knife geometry, ergonomics, design & function

  • Knife grinding techniques

  • Knife assembly techniques

  • Handle shaping

Beginners welcome! In this class we will learn the core skills of silversmithing over the course of one fun-filled day. 

You will learn:

  • foundational skills and techniques of silversmithing

  • how to make (and take home) a set of sterling silver stacking rings

  • how to make (and take home) your very own ring with a bezel set stone

We will use torches and work with hot materials, so please wear closed toed shoes, long pants, and wear your hair up, if necessary. 

After class, you’ll go home with all of your new handmade sterling silver jewelry, a binder full of resources on suppliers, trouble shooting tips, and reference sheets for the skills you acquired in class, as well as access to Jenny’s online beginner’s silversmithing course so you can refer back to video recorded content of the steps we cover in class.

Jenny is a full-time silversmith operating her jewelry business Sedona Rose Studio from her home in the hills outside of Nashville. You can check out her Instagram, as well.

She has taught silversmithing to hundreds of students in-person and online and many of them have gone on to create jewelry businesses of their own. She wants to share her love for this trade and the fulfillment it brings with as many people as possible.

The Forge Nashville & The Curve have partners to create this semester-long, four-class series. Students will build on the skills learned in Metal Shop 101 & 201 for Teens by applying welding and metal fabrication techniques to design and build a scooter.

Attendance is required at all dates to complete your project, and you must attend the first day in order to proceed with any subsequent sessions. There are no make-up dates for missed sessions.

All needed materials for this class will be supplied to students by The Forge.

Ethan Warner is a self-taught metal fabricator and founder of EZ Precision Works, established in 2024. With a background in construction, Ethan brings creativity, precision, and a love of problem-solving to every project from architectural fabrication and metal art work to custom vehicle builds. His work reflects his passion for turning imagination into something tangible. Away from the shop, Ethan and his wife, Ryleigh, spend their free time offroad racing, scuba diving, and exploring other adventures alongside their two dogs, Violet and Bandit.

In this Metal Shop intensive, students will learn how to fabricate an end table base out of mild steel. This is a complete start to finish project that outlines all necessary steps from planning, preparing, fabricating and finishing, which will result in a 24” x 18” table base.

Students will learn how to read a drawing, measure, cut, drill, tap, layout, clamp, weld, and blend. You will also become familiar with a wide array of metalworking tools such as:

  • Measuring tools

  • Horizontal band saw

  • Drill press

  • Taps

  • Clamps

  • MIG welder

  • Angle grinder and cut off wheel

  • Pneumatic tools

All materials and PPE will be provided, and a pizza lunch is provided.
