From Quilt to Catwalk: Creating Wearable Quilted Garments

Join us for a hands-on, 4-hour workshop where you'll turn a quilt or found fabric into a stunning blazer using the McCall’s M7332 pattern. This workshop is perfect for all levels, from beginners to experienced quilters, looking to enhance their skills and creativity. Learn to sew, finish binding, and work with various fabrics like cotton, denim, and quilted materials in a fun, supportive setting.

Key Skills You’ll Learn:

  • How to sew a blazer using a commercial pattern.

  • Techniques for working with different fabric types.

  • Finishing details like hand-stitched binding and embellishments.

  • Best practices for choosing materials and supplies.

What to Bring:

  • Chosen fabric r a quilt to repurpose for creating your blazer.

  • Sewing machine (portable).

What’s Provided:

  • Workspace setup with cutting mats, irons, and ironing boards.

  • Pins, scissors, and basic tools for shared use.

  • Basic sewing supplies: scissors, pins, thread, measuring tape, seam ripper, rotary cutter, ruler, and mat.

Sandra Lee Chandler is an international fiber artist, designer, and educator known for transforming repurposed denim and vintage quilts into one-of-a-kind wearable art and quilted pieces. With over 30 years of teaching experience, she inspires others through workshops that blend heritage, sustainability, and fashion-forward creativity. Sandra is a Bernina Ambassador and a featured artist with Threads Magazine, and has appeared on The Quilt Show, Quilting Arts TV, and Threads Magazine TV.
