Shibori Dye Method - Bandanas

Shibori Dye Method - Bandanas
$115.00

Shibori & Indigo: Exploring Japanese Resist-Dye Techniques:

Discover the magic of indigo and the ancient art of Shibori during an afternoon of Indigo dyeing at The Forge Nashville. In this hands-on textile workshop, designed for beginners and creatives alike, we will explore traditional Japanese resist-dyeing techniques that transform plain cloth into striking works of art using deep, rich indigo dye.

You’ll learn how to fold, twist, bind, and clamp fabric using itajime (shape-resist), arashi (pole-wrapping), and kumo (pleat and bind) methods to create bold patterns, texture, and contrast. As the indigo reacts with oxygen, your fabric will change right before your eyes—turning every piece into a unique creation.

We will guide you step-by-step through the Shibori dye process, from preparing your cloth to multiple dips in the indigo vat. By the end, you’ll leave with beautifully dyed textiles—a pair of bandanas—plus the knowledge to continue dyeing at home.

What You’ll Learn:

 History and cultural background of Shibori & Indigo Dyeing

 Overview of various resist techniques (folding, clamping, binding)

 Indigo vat preparation and dyeing safety

 How to create and care for your finished pieces

Materials provided for students

  - Buckets or dyeing pots for preparing dye baths

  - Rubber bands (optional for beginners)

Street Art 101

Street Art 101
$150.00

Street Art 101 focuses on disrupting the industry norm of how a traditional painting class might be taught. This is all about thinking outside of the box while emphasizing artistic diversification - integrating graphic and street art into a composition. There are no rules. We will use spray paint, paint pen, pastels and stencils on glass. Students will complete an 11”x14” framed piece in the style of street art, to take home and hang on their walls!

Larry Stewart, of Larrydiditt, and a member at The Forge, will teach this class.

I am a Laguna Beach artist born and raised; I have been honing my craft in contemporary styled artwork for the last decade. Initially a full-time athlete, my notebooks overflowed with artistic creations. Eventually, it came time to hang up the cleats; with my old identity gone, I committed to something new. Soon the hours in the studio surpassed the hours in the ocean, and I knew that it would be this way forever. Years of athletics created an addictive passion for mastering every detail of my creation and finding new sources of inspiration. The only difference is that art is a game I cannot win, so it looks like I have a lifetime of competition ahead of me. - One Love, Larry Stewart
