Everyone can learn to draw!
The key to learning to draw is learning to see. We invite you to learn to SEE and DRAW, exploring various approaches and ways of thinking about the act of drawing. Professor of Art Claire Hampton will guide you through processes for drawing from still life subjects, applying different approaches to find what works best for you!
Offering 3 sessions for beginners or those who want to learn more, each will provide a different basic strategy for seeing and drawing. Enroll in one session or all three.
This listing is for:
Seeing and Drawing 2: Gesture + Line Quality - In this 3-hour session, you will be introduced to gesture and the nature of line quality. The focus will be on discovering the major elements of a subject – the big picture – and exploring the expressiveness and meaning of line quality. You will produce more than one drawing
All supplies and materials used in this class are provided by The Forge.
Enroll in the other sessions of this series:
Seeing and Drawing 1: Approaches to Seeing - In this 3-hour session, you will be introduced to a basic approach to seeing as an artist and a beginning technique for drawing. The focus will be on slowing down to see and gather information. You will practice this approach with different still life subjects before producing a final drawing.
Seeing and Drawing 3: Proportions + Depth - In this 3-hour session, you will be introduced to techniques for assessing proportional relationships and creating depth of space. If you’ve ever tried to draw a box and it just didn’t look right, these techniques will help. You will practice with various subjects, focusing on creating depth of space and a 3-D appearance. For those who have attended one or both previous Seeing/Drawing sessions, there will be opportunity to bring these skills together. You will produce one or more drawings.
All class enrollments are subject to a no-refund, no-transfer policy. Instructors have the right to refuse any enrollee who does not meet the age and/or prerequisite requirements without issuing any refund.
